Team Sunshine Lollipops
Michael Goldberg from Sunshine Lollipops shares his experience as a 2024 Trail Blazer and this year’s top fundraiser.
How did you hear about Trail Blazers, and how did you make the decision to sign up?
I've been familiar with Camp Casco for several years and was delighted to be introduced to Trail Blazers by the organization's amazing CEO, Erin Stern.
What do you love about Trail Blazers? What brings you back every year?
What do I love about Trail Blazers? Really, what don't I love about Trail Blazers? Trail Blazers is an opportunity to enjoy a hike with great company, to connect with your community while fundraising, and to support a wonderful cause.
How do you decide where you will hike?
Picking my Trail Blazers path is simple: I choose a trail that is convenient and looks enjoyable. I've done everything from a stroll around the neighborhood to Zion National Park. You can't go wrong: all you need is some water, a hat, sunscreen, some snacks, and a smile...and you're good to go!
Why is Trail Blazers important, and how does this program impact the kids who attend Camp Casco?
Trail Blazers is important for the cancer community because it does two impactful things. First, it raises valuable resources to ensure that kids impacted by childhood cancers can enjoy one of the best experiences of their lives (free summer camp) as well as support and programming throughout the year. And importantly, the event brings people together, and that's what community is all about. Trail Blazers reminds us how we can show up for one another, whether by contributing financially, emotionally, or physically. Anyone who becomes involved will feel so good afterward, and the world can always benefit from positive energy.
As our top fundraiser, you had the opportunity to visit one of our camps in person. What was that experience like, and what was the best part of your visit?
Visiting one of Camp Casco's camps in person was absolutely delightful. My daughter and I enjoyed doing arts and crafts as well as playing corn hole with the campers. The positive energy shared by the counselors and children was totally palpable, and there was a true sense of joy in the air. The best part of our visit was simply seeing the smiles on the campers' faces. That's what this is all about. And it's the generosity of all of Camp Casco's donors that makes this possible.
