Do you have questions about camp? You’re not alone! Going to camp is so exciting, but having questions about what to expect is natural. Here are some of our most frequently asked questions from campers. We can’t wait to have a wonderful week with you!

What types of activities can I do at camp?

There are so many fun activities at camp! Some of the most popular activities are swimming, canoeing, archery, arts and craft, indoor rock climbing, and of course, campfires! We also plan special activities like theme days, a dance, water fights, and even a talent show. Every day will be different and fun!

Where will I sleep?

We like to think of Camp Casco as a “glamping” experience. Glamping refers to “glamorous camping, " meaning you’ll enjoy electricity, indoor bathrooms, hot water, and a comfy single or bunk bed. No sleeping on the ground here! You will stay in a small bedroom with a few other campers and counselors of the same gender.

What will I eat?

Camp food is delicious, nutritious, and, best of all, kid-friendly. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served every day either outside at picnic tables or inside the Dining Hall. Fruit and cereal are always available at breakfast, and we keep lots of yummy snacks on hand for extra energy between meals. Camp Casco works with the kitchen staff at Grotonwood to ensure that all dietary restrictions and allergies are accommodated. Please let us know if any camper has food allergies or dietary restrictions. Take a look at our menu for the week:

What if I feel tired?

So many fun things are happening at camp that it’s easy for anyone to feel tired. But don’t worry; you’ll have time to take a break and rest. We take short walks between activities and stop or slow down along the way if we need to. Our wheelchairs, or “buggies,” are a popular mode of transportation for campers who want to save energy between activities. Plus, we take a siesta after lunch every day. You can take this time to rest quietly in your bunk, read, or take a nap to recharge for the rest of the day. Extra breaks are always available if you want additional rest.

What if I feel homesick?

Being away from home can be tough at any age, and missing family, friends, and pets during the week is natural. You may feel homesick during camp, and that’s totally ok! Here are some natural “cures” to help with camp-week homesickness that we love at Camp Casco:

  • A cheer or a laugh with your best camp friends

  • A swim in the pool

  • A climb on the wall

  • A hug from your favorite counselor

  • Yelling a camp song at the top of your lunches

  • A snuggle with your favorite stuffed animal

  • Performing a song or a skit at the talent show

  • “Homesick Pills,” aka Skittles in the Med Shed

If you or your camper have any additional questions, we’ll happily answer them! Email us at hello@campcasco.org. We can’t wait to see you at camp!
