The Long-Lasting Impact of Camp Casco
The magic of Camp Casco doesn’t end when our campers go home. At Camp Casco, kids build up their confidence, try new things, and meet peers who understand what it’s like to be a kid with cancer. Camp mom Jessica shares how Camp Casco has been instrumental in her daughter Isabel’s life and how the camp experience will stay with Isabel forever:
My daughter Isabel has attended the day camp once and the overnight camp 3 times!
I have noticed many positive changes in Isabel since she started attending camp. She is more independent. She also learns a lot and participates in new activities. Finally, she enjoys connecting with other kids who have gone through the same thing. Isabel’s confidence has increased since attending camp. She has new friends, and she looks forward to this experience each year. I think it helps to know she’s not alone, and she also sees older kids who have come out on the other side of things.
Isabel having the time of her life on the slip ‘n slide
I was super nervous the first time Isabel went to overnight camp, but in the end, it was unfounded. The staff at camp is amazing, and they improve things each year based on past camp experiences. There is constant communication throughout the year, and they are available if anything is needed during camp. I would say that parents should give overnight camp a chance. I think I was more anxious than Isabel.
Watch Isabel talk about how much she loves camp!
I think that Camp Casco will be an important part of Isabel’s life forever. She sometimes mentions possibly working there as a counselor when she’s older. I think it’s so great to see the kids looking out for one another and sharing their experiences.
