Sudbury's Camp Casco Begins Free Pediatric Cancer Camp Week
The One Mission Day Camp helps cancer survivors and patients
meet, and embark on adventures.
SUDBURY, MA — The Sudbury nonprofit Camp Casco will begin its 2024 camp season Monday with the One Mission Day Camp, a weeklong experience for pediatric cancer survivors and patients. The camp is one of three main programs happening this summer.
Here's more from a Camp Casco news release:
Camp Casco, a nonprofit organization offering free camps and socials for New England childhood cancer patients, survivors, and siblings, will welcome campers for The One Mission Day Camp. The camp will take place at Dana Hall School through a donation from LINX Camps from July 1 to 5, 2024.
Camp Casco is pleased to continue its partnership with LINX Camps and the Dana Hall School in Wellesley, MA, and the organization is thrilled to welcome One Mission as the sponsor for The One Mission Day Camp. One Mission is a long-time funder of Camp Casco; this will mark the first year the nonprofit has sponsored the day camp.
Erin Fletcher Stern, Camp Casco’s CEO and co-founder, is grateful for the opportunity to align with other nonprofits in the area and is excited to kick off another summer in Wellesley. "Day Camp is an incredible opportunity for kids to spend time with peers who have been through similar challenges with cancer in a safe and supportive environment,” said Stern. “We'll focus on building camaraderie & connections throughout the week, planting the seeds for friendships that last far beyond this week. We are so grateful to our partners at LINX Camps, Dana Hall School, and One Mission for making this magical week possible."
The One Mission Day Camp is a free week-long camp for cancer patients, survivors, and siblings ages 6-12. At camp, kids experience the magic of summer while connecting with other kids who understand pediatric cancer’s unique challenges. The camp includes traditional activities like swimming, water fights, and special themed activities that change yearly. This year’s theme is the Olympics, in honor of the summer Olympics in Paris. The camp is provided completely free of cost, including meals and snacks, nearly 1:1 counselor-to-camper supervision, and onsite medical professionals.
The One Mission Day Camp is one of Camp Casco’s three summer programs. In August, Camp Casco will host its first week-long Sibling Camp, just for brothers and sisters of cancer patients, and a week-long Overnight Camp solely for pediatric cancer survivors. Both sleepaway camps will take place at a different Massachusetts campsite and are free for all campers.
