Kindness and Inclusivity at Camp Casco
At Camp Casco, every child is welcomed exactly as they are. From the moment they arrive, they step into a place where kindness isn’t just encouraged—it’s how camp is.
For many campers, this is the first time they’re surrounded by peers who truly understand what it means to go through cancer treatment. At Camp Casco, it doesn't matter if you look different, walk different, or talk different. Camp is a place of understanding and acceptance-- a refreshing change for many of our campers.
A Culture of Kindness & Inclusion
At Camp Casco, being kind is part of our mission and our core values. Campers cheer each other on, celebrate silly moments, and look out for one another. Whether it’s a high-five at the climbing wall, a goofy dance-off, or making sure no one sits alone at lunch, kindness is second nature at camp.
But inclusivity goes beyond just kindness—it’s built into every part of camp. We welcome kids of all abilities, whether they need mobility or visual support, extra rest, or help navigating social situations. Our team is trained to ensure every child can participate in activities in their own way, so no one ever has to sit out or feel left behind.
Our staff and volunteers set the tone to ensure every camper feels comfortable, included, and part of the group. There’s no competition to be the best, no cliques, and no pressure to be anything other than yourself.
No Room for Bullying—Only Belonging
At Camp Casco, bullying is not tolerated. We work hard to create a safe and positive environment where every child is treated with kindness and respect. Our counselors are always available to support campers, encourage healthy friendships, and step in if needed to ensure everyone feels safe and included.
We know that for many parents, bullying is a top concern, especially because many of our campers have experienced it at school or in other social settings. Feeling different can sometimes mean feeling left out, excluded, or even mistreated. But that will never be the case at Camp Casco.
Here, every camper is valued, supported, and welcomed with open arms. No one sits alone, no one is left behind, and everyone has a place in our community. At Camp Casco, kindness isn’t just encouraged—it’s how we do camp.
The Impact Goes Beyond Camp
The best part? That kind of environment sticks with kids long after camp ends. Many of our campers have felt different at school or in their daily lives because of their medical history. But here, they find friends who just *get* what they’ve been through.
This sense of belonging builds confidence. We see kids arrive on day one feeling a little unsure, and by the end of the week, they’re leading games, trying new things, and laughing until their stomachs hurt. They head home knowing they’re not alone, that they do belong, and that they’re capable of more than they realized.
A Place for Everyone
Camp Casco brings together kids from all different backgrounds, but by the end of the week, they feel like they’ve known each other forever. Friendships form quickly because when you’re in a place where everyone is included, it’s easy to connect.
And the best part? These friendships don’t end when camp does. Campers stay in touch long after summer, sending messages, reuniting at events, and supporting each other in ways that only true friends can.
More Than a Camp—A Community
At the end of the day, Camp Casco is about more than just campfires and games. It’s about building a place where kids feel safe, supported, and free to be themselves. It’s about friendships that last, confidence that grows, and a community that always has your back.
Because at Camp Casco, everyone belongs.
