Sudbury's Camp Casco Picked As 128th Boston Marathon Charity
The Boston Marathon allows runners to enter the legendary race to fundraise for local charities.
SUDBURY, MA — A Sudbury-based summer camp program for kids with cancer has been selected as one of the charities eligible to filed runners in the 128th Boston Marathon in April.
Each year, the Boston Athletic Association allows runners to get a bib to enter the race through a local nonprofit as opposed to qualifying for the race. Qualifying times are tough to achieve and do not guarantee entry into the race.
Sudbury's Camp Casco will offer three bibs to local runners. To apply for a bib, runners have to submit a training plan, and a plan for hitting a fundraising goal of $10,000 by race day on April 30. The nonprofit will select its three Boston Marathon runners in October.
"To be able to participate in the race and raise money, awareness, and cheer for the
athletes running on behalf of Camp Casco is a dream come true," Camp Casco CEO Erin Fletcher Stern said in a news release.
Camp Casco offers summer camp programs in the Boston area for kids with cancer. The highlight of the summer is a week-long overnight camp for childhood cancer patients and survivors between 7 and 17-years-old. The camps also hosts a getaway for siblings of children diagnosed with cancer, and a camp for survivors.
Local runners have until Oct. 1 to apply for a bib. Find out more about how to enter on the Camp Casco website.
