I first heard about Camp Casco and Trail Blazers through a longtime friend of mine and old co-worker, Michelle. She saw many of my hiking posts on social media and sent me a message to tell me about Camp and what amazing work they do.
What I love about Trail Blazers is the flexibility it provides for forming your team, picking your “own” mountain to hike, and fundraising for such a wonderful cause without the pressure.
This year, I’ll be hiking Mount Washington for my hike. I chose my Trail Blazers hike based on a couple of factors: first, I love to volunteer and support the hikers who complete the Presidential Traverse on June 1st, but I still want to hike up in New Hampshire. Secondly, I need to hike Mount Washington to complete my 48th mountain off the 4,000-footers list.
My advice for people doing Trail Blazers for the first time is to have fun and hike your own hike. Also, remember what you have raised the money for and keep that in the back of your mind when hiking gets difficult.
A fundraiser like Trail Blazers is so important for the cancer community because it raises money for these young kids impacted by this terrible disease.
